WH Exodus: Another Resignation Rocks Biden Admin Just One Day After the Previous One

The White House has announced departures following a recent USA Today poll that revealed Joe Biden’s approval rating sits at only 38 percent while Kamala Harris’ rating is 28 percent.

Communications Chief of Staff Emma Rile has announced her departure, according to Newsweek. Riley will be moved to the Department of Labor.

This news came only one day after the White House said Ashley Etienne will also be leaving her post as communications director for Harris.

Etienne previously served for former President Barack Obama as well as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She is described as a “veteran” of former Democratic administrations.

“When Etienne joined the vice president’s office she told me she would stay for the first year, but still her departure comes after a raft of stories on infighting and low morale in the vice president’s office,” it reports.

CNN reported, “Etienne’s departure comes after CNN detailed significant tension between West Wing aides and the vice president’s office.”

CNN revealed that several people on Harris’ staff had started to reach out to contacts to say they’re looking to leave, according to sources who have received phone calls.

CNN interviewed nearly three dozen current and former staffers for Harris which showed there is “dysfunction” within her team.

The report said the White House is growing increasingly frustrated with “entrenched dysfunction and lack of focus” from Harris and her staff.

“Harris is struggling with a rocky relationship with some parts of the White House, while long-time supporters feel abandoned and see no coherent public sense of what she’s done or been trying to do as vice president,” CNN reported.

Harris’ approval numbers have hit rock bottom at only 28 percent, according to USA Today. Business Insider reports

this is a “historic low for any modern vice president,” even lower than former vice president Dick Cheney.

In its reporting based on sources it did not name, CNN said one source told it that Etienne “was not a good fit” for Harris and did not play a highly active role in developing a strategy for getting Harris out of the tailspin that has marked her first year.

Rep James Clyburn of South Carolina downplayed the significance of the changes.

“People leave jobs all the time. I’ve been a part of transitions myself at the state level. And I know that within the first several months –sometimes it takes a year — that people may find out this is not exactly for me. So these things tend to happen,” he said.

Writing in the Atlantic, David Graham suggested that the Democrats have been their own worst enemy.

“Democrats have been at war with one another for months in Washington, and even if voters like the results, the spectacle is deeply unpleasant,” he wrote.

“You can’t turn on a cable-news channel these days without hearing a Democrat explaining why his or her least-favorite part of the Biden agenda is bad, which may be more persuasive than the predictable parade of Republicans saying the same thing,” Graham wrote.
